Van Hatch Grant Jr

Funeral services for Van Hatch Grant, Jr, 85, Lawrence, will be 10 am, Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3615 West 10th St. Lawrence, KS 66049. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. He died Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at his home. Van was born May 29, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Van Hatch Sr. and Mildred Blood Grant. He graduated from Tucson High School, Tucson, AZ. Later he graduated from USC with a BA in Economics. Van was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Van Joined the United States Air Force and was a fighter pilot, spending some of the time in French Morocco. He was a member of the New Mexico Air National Guard for 13 years. After his service he became a flight officer for United Airlines for 26 years. He was an avid tennis player and played with the Old Geezer’s Tennis group. He played three times a week until Illness sidelined him in April of last year. Van married Beverly Morton in Phoenix, AZ, in 1962, she preceded him in death in 1985. He later married Janet Churchbaugh on May 31, 1986 in the Los Angeles California Temple, she survives of the home. Other survivors include daughters Meredith Davis, Sacramento, CA, Paige Robinson ( Michael) Pleasant Grove, Utah, Heather Savage (Paul) Highland, Utah; grandchildren Brock Davis, Nicholas, Monika, Noah, Ryenne, Evan Robinson, Anna Savage Hodge (Matthew), Marie, Suzanne, Joseph Savage; Siblings Brooke Grant (Sally), Gregory Grant, Pamela Grant Cracchiolo (Dan), Jolyon Grant, Land Grant (Renee); and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Beverly, sister Treasure Grant, brother Skyelor Grant, sisters in law Leeann Grant, Lyn Grant, Joan Grant, niece CiCi Grant.
