Vera L. Hadl

Vera L. (McCrary) Hadl, age 84, passed away quietly on March 14, 2016 in Lawrence KS.
Vera was born to parents Marlin “Mac” McCrary and Ruby Fairbanks McCrary on July 1, 1931 in Lawrence KS. She married Richard Wayne Hadl on June 12, 1948. At the time of Richard’s passing, they had been married 54 years.
Vera is survived by daughter Peggy Shultz (husband D. John); daughter Donna Field (husband Roger); daughter­in­law Cindy S. Hadl, and daughter Patti Hadl; 8 grandchildren including Amber S. Reynolds (husband Shawn), John M. Shultz, Brett Field (wife Emily), Darren Field, Bryce Hadl, Elizabeth Hadl, Alexander M. Gordzica, and Christina Elder (husband Ryan); and 9 great grandchildren including Connor Reynolds, Liam Reynolds, Oliver Reynolds, Tobin Reynolds, Gavin Field, Madison Field, Tristan Elder, Alyssa Elder, and Auren Elder. Also surviving are sister Betty Curtiss, sister Barbara Alldredge, brother Bill McCrary (wife Barbara), brother David McCrary (wife Kathy); and many nephews and nieces.
Preceding Vera death, besides husband Richard and her parents, were son Russell W. Hadl, and brother Harold L. McCrary.
In addition to her homemaking, Vera worked outside of the home for many years as well, most recently for the Lawrence School District.
Vera volunteered for several years to make comfort quilts for Lawrence Memorial Hospital patients and also served for many years as a volunteer in the LMH gift shop, where she became acquainted with many of the LMH staff. Vera loved all children and was known in her neighborhood for her ice cream parties and other fun events.
Vera was a long­time member of the Central United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be conducted by Warren­ McElwain Mortuary on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Lawrence’s Oak Hill Cemetery, with inurnment to be next to her husband Richard.
