Mass of Christian Burial for Julia “Judy” E. Hill, 91, Lawrence, will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Inurnment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Judy died December 24, 2016, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was born February 20, 1925, in rural Tecumseh, Kansas, the daughter of Martin Francis and Clara Jessie (Boursaw) Ice. She spent her early years in Big Springs, Kansas. She later moved to Lawrence in 1942. Judy grew up in her father’s grocery store from 19301942 in Big Springs. She worked for Southwestern Bell for 6 years. Judy was a den mother for several years, also a Girl Scout leader for 6 years. She worked at Lawrence High in food service for 3 years and then started the lunch program at St. John Catholic School and was director for 16 years. She received two awards while there: The Kansas Wheat Commission award and The Louise Sublette Award. In 1979 she was supervisor of The Hawk’s Nest and Prairie Room in the Kansas Union for 6 years. Judy retired in 1983, spent the winters in McAllen, TX full time for 4 years and returned to Lawrence in 1995. She was a lifetime member of the Lecompton Historical Society, worked the election board, and was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, and a past member of the St. John Altar Society and of Our Lady of Sorrows in McAllen, Texas. Judy married Jack E. Hill on June 11, 1945 in Lawrence, Kansas. Jack and Judy had 71 years together. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her four children, Michael (Lolita) Hill, Pat Shultz, Marti (Mike) Frost, and Tim (Patty) Hill, all of Lawrence; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, sisterinlaw, Marie Ice, Lawrence. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Tony and Al Ice; and her sister, Evelyn Brown. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. John Catholic School or Corpus Christi Catholic School and sent in care of the mortuary. A parish rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church.
