Denni Diane Wade Hughes

Memorial services for Denni Diane Wade Hughes, 83, Lawrence, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana St. Lawrence, KS 66044.
Mrs. Hughes died surrounded by her three loving children, Thursday, February 26, 2015, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born October 6, 1931, in Mission, Kansas, the daughter of Foy Davis “Jack” Wade and Viola Mae Deniston Wade. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School and graduated from the University of Kansas as a member of Phi Beta Kappa in 1953, majoring in Spanish and the Fine Arts. She played the marimba and was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church. Her favorite things to do included talking to people, mostly about her children’s activities, caring for her animals, and enjoying KU athletics. She was also an avid reader and Bridge player.
She married Robert Walter Hughes, M.D., August 8, 1953. He preceded her in death in 2002. Mrs. Hughes was also preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother-in-law Howard L. Green.
Survivors include a son, Patrick L. Hughes, M.D. of Overland Park; two daughters, Janice L. Hughes and Sharon M. Hughes both of Lawrence; sister, Patricia Wade Green of Dufur, OR; two granddaughters, Megan Elizabeth Palmer and husband Dustin of Overland Park, and Kelly Michelle Hughes of Rowland Park; cousin, Carol Sue Keffer of Louisburg; two nephews and one niece.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday prior to the service.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Lawrence Humane Society or the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the funeral home.
