Kenneth “Everett” Crist

Kenneth “Everett” Crist, son of Josiah Calvin and Flora Belle (Wray) Crist, was born April 26, 1921, near Centropolis, Kansas. His family moved briefly to Springer, New Mexico in 1927 for his father’s health. Upon his father’s death, the family moved back to the Centropolis community. He was a dairy farmer for 26 years, worked 5 years for Delmer Wray on the rural water district installing service lines, worked for the US Army Corp of Engineers at Clinton Lake for 9 years, and spent the remaining years mowing lawns in Lawrence Kansas until 2009. Following a stroke in May 2013, he lived with his son, Arlin, in Overland Park, Kansas.
He enjoyed the fellowship of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church and was baptized at the age of 33 years, living a simple and modest Christian life. In failing health, he was anointed May 2011. On January 15, 1955, he was united in marriage to Delta Marie Jamison. To this union three children were born, Elvin Crist, Joetta Walker, and Arlin Crist. He departed this life surrounded by family on June 27, 2015 at 1:12 am at the age of 94 years and 2 months.
He is survived by two children, Joetta Walker, Arlin and companion Elsie (Brink) Crist, four grandchildren, Trevis Walker, Lea (Walker) and companion Harold Stockberger, Armonda Crist, and Daniel Crist; four great-grandchildren, Krista Hopkins, Genesis Hopkins, Jessica Stockberger, and Dallas Stockberger; two sisters, Myrtle Wrightsman, Imogene and companion Alva C. Riffey; and one brother, Harlan Crist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Josiah and Flora Belle; companion Delta Marie (Jamison); sister-in-law Velma Ellen Crist; brother-in-law Amos Wrightsman; and his son, Elvin Crist.
His mother instilled the joy of poetry and reading which he enjoyed through his life. He had a great love of the outdoors and felt better when he could see the open sky. Family members remember him as a selfless giver whose beautiful smile will be sorely missed. Our loss is his eternal gain.
