Lavina Garcia-Vasquez

A memorial mass for Lavina Garcia-Vasquez will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. Inurnment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Lawrence.
Lavina Garcia-Vasquez, 84, of Lawrence, died Aug. 31, 2014, at Pioneer Ridge. She was born March 31, 1930 in Lecompton, KS to Thomas Garcia Sr. and Simona (Carrilo) Garcia.
Lavina was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family meant the world to her. When she wasn’t spending time with her family, she enjoyed doing embroidering and crocheting. Coming from a family with many good cooks, she was also known for her cooking skills.
She is preceded in death by: her parents, five brothers, four sisters, and two grandchildren.
She is survived by: husband; Marion Vasquez, six daughters; Gloria (Stephen) Vasquez-Crockett, Rebecca Vasquez, Cynthia (Jim) Vasquez-Huffman, Stephanie (Nick) Vasquez, Regina (Dean) Vasquez-Hodges, Trisha Vasquez, sister; Nancy Findley, thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Rosary service and visitation will be held on Friday, from 6 to 7 pm at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and may be made in care of the mortuary.
