Ada Meyers Overbaugh

Funeral services for Ada “Fern” (Myers) Overbaugh, 98, Lawrence will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. She died on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Medicalodges Eudora where she had lived the past few months.
Fern was born October 22, 1915 in Newton County, MO the daughter of George and Susan “Susie” (Hendrix) Williams. She was one of ten children all of which have preceded her in heath.
She had been a resident of Lawrence, KS since 1964 after moving from Kansas City, KS with her husband, Minter Myers to be near her son, William Myers who is a resident of Lawrence. After moving to Lawrence Fern was employed for a time with the University of Kansas Endowment Association and also with Gibson’s Department Store. While in Kansas City, she and her husband, Minter were long-time employees of the Union Pacific Railroad.
She attended the First Christian Church until moving to assisted living. She loved to attend Senior Center dances with her 2nd husband Earl and loved to travel. She was an inspiration to her family and was always active, upbeat and outgoing. She will be greatly missed.
She married Minter Myers July 28, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1977. She then married Earl Robert Overbaugh on October 3, 1982 in Lawrence. He preceded her in death October 19, 1988.
Survivors include one son, William Myers and wife, Becky, Lawrence; two grandchildren, Kathryn Myers and husband, John Hampton, Debra Laurent and husband, Tim; and five great grandchildren, Kameron Demby, Whitney Demby, Rachael Hampton, Rebecca Hampton, and Macie Laurent, all are of Lawrence.
The family will greet friends at 1:00 p.m. one hour prior to her service, Thursday, May 15th at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials in her name to Senior Center or Grace Hospice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
