Kermit Duane Aldridge

Kermit Duane Aldridge was born July 30, 1963, in Fort Worth, Texas, the son, of Cornelius Aldridge Jr, and Sharon L. Greene Aldridge. He lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, March 8, 2014, surrounded by his family at the age of 50.
As the son of a military father, he resided in various places in the U.S. and abroad. He was a multisport athlete throughout his school days and he graduated from Lawrence High School in 1981. He worked for LRM Industries for 15 years in various capacities. He was inspired by his late uncle Bill Greene to become a teacher and a coach.
He was united in marriage to Laura A. Glass in 1990 and divorced in 2010.
Kermit received his BS degree in sport science with an emphasis on coaching from the University of Kansas in 2002. He went on to work three years as a strength and conditioning coach for the Jayhawks. He began a career as a para-educator at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School where he was currently employed. He served as an assistant football coach at LHS for four years. He was in his third season with the basketball program.
Throughout his life he was a volunteer coach for many years for his children’s teams as well as community programs. He also volunteered for the Can We Talk Program at Central as a mentor. He received a coach of the year award when coaching the 7th grade football team at South Middle School.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother Derrick Hardy.
He is survived by his fiancé Lisa Shields of the home, mother Sharon Aldridge, daughter Erica Lee Aldridge, and son Travis Jordan Aldridge, all of Lawrence; a brother Cornelius Aldridge III of Kansas City, Missouri, a sister Allison Ann Aldridge of Silver Spring, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kermit loved spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies included golf, music, fishing and travelling. He enjoyed watching all types of sport events but was always loyal to the Jayhawks.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. at the Lawrence High School Cafeteria. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Kermit D. Aldridge Memorial Scholarship Fund. Checks can be made out to the Lawrence Schools Foundation in care of Warren McElwain Mortuary.
