Stanley Keith Mullenix

Stanley Keith Mullenix, 87, Lawrence died Thursday, February 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. A private family service will be held in Lawrence.

Stanley was born January 24, 1927 in Chase, KS the son of George M. and Lola F. Mullenix.

Mr. Mullenix served three years in the U.S. Army 11th Airborne Division in the Pacific and Japan during World War II.

He was a graduate of McLouth, KS high school and the University of Kansas where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education. After teaching four years in Eureka, Kansas he taught twenty-four years at West Junior High School in Lawrence retiring in 1987.

He married Joyce E. Edmonds on July 21, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri. She survives of the home. Other survivors include four daughters, Chris Johnson and husband Kenny, Lawrence; Cindy Gilmore and husband Jack, Phoenix, AZ; Sue Kanoho and husband Farrell, Fairfield, CA; and Julie Halling and husband Andy, Lawrence; a brother Leonard Mullenix and wife Audrey of Las Cruces, NM; fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Mullenix was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and long time member of Kiwanis. He enjoyed landscaping and gardening. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States and especially enjoyed Rocky Mountain National Park hiking the trails with his children and later with his grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4pm to 6pm Thursday at Warren McElwain Mortuary.

Suggested memorials are Visiting Nurses and Disabled Veterans National Foundation with contributions in his name sent in care of the mortuary.
