John Louis Smith

John Louis “Bubba” Smith, 17, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014, in Trego County, Kansas.
Family will meet with friends from 5:30 to 8:30 P.M., Friday, June 13, 2014, at Dengel & Son Mortuary.
A celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Osage Community Covenant Church, 334 N. Topeka Ave., Osage City, Kansas. Cremation is planned.
Bubba was born Friday, October 25, 1996, in Ottawa, Kansas, the son of John Smith and Veronica (Lawrence) Powell.
He grew up in Osage City moving to Ottawa in 2012.
Bubba was a junior at Ottawa High School.
Survivors include his mother, Veronica Powell and husband Michael of Baldwin City; father, John Smith and wife Hailey of Ottawa; siblings, Jacqueline Smith, Chelsey Freeman, Tiffany Smith, Jordan, Michaela and Madison Powell, Isabell Woolsoncroft, Christopher Freeman, Noah Powell, and Matthew Woolsoncroft; maternal grandmother, Frances Whanger; paternal grandmother, Pam Smith; grandparents, Stephen and Brenda Powell; grandparents, J.B. and JoEllen Hall; aunts, Kelly Smith-Bramlage, Jessica Griffin, Stephanie Griffin, and Crystal and Chad Musil; nieces, Alizae Freeman, and Jillian Brock; nephews, Sacariol Lawrence King Thomas, and William Brock; cousins, Maximus and Benjamin Bramlage; and girlfriend, Ale Gutierrez.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John Louis Lawrence; paternal grandfather, John Thomas Smith; and grandmother, Rebecca Powell; and was united in Heaven with his sister, Alexis Jo “A.J.” Woolsoncroft.
Bubba worked as a handyman for Main Street Antiques, for the past year and a half, and also as an auto detailer for Ottawa Chrysler.
He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, four-wheeling, working on cars, and shooting. He especially liked hanging out with his little sisters and traveling to Colorado to spend time with family.
He attended and was actively involved in the youth group and in mission work, at Osage Community Covenant Church, Osage City.
