H. Anne Whalen Coleman

A memorial mass for H. Anne Whalen Coleman, Lawrence will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3rd at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Carrollton, MO. She died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at her home.
Anne was born February 24, 1942 in Kansas City, MO the daughter of Charles and F. Elizabeth (Cole) Whalen.
Anne received her diploma in Nursing from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing and then went on to receive her BSN in Nursing from the University of Kansas and her Masters from Baker University.
She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She was also a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Topeka where she was a Eucharistic minister and served on various committees. She was a chairperson and member of Catholic Charities Advisory Board, volunteered at Stormont-Vail Medical Center in Topeka with her grandson, Tyler.
Anne loved to travel with family members throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. She loved Tibet and China and was attempting to see the seven wonders of Kansas with her grandsons.
She retired from Lawrence Public Schools where she was a paraprofessional for special needs children at Prairie Park and Quail Run Elementary Schools.
Survivors include one daughter, Leslie Ham and husband, Nathan, Topeka, KS; one son, Steven Coleman and wife, Kim, Omaha, NE; four grandchildren, Tyler and Zach Coleman and Tanner and Daxton Ham; and two sisters, Mary Eden, Baltimore, MD and Eileen Whalen, Sunland, CA.
The family suggests memorial in her name to the ALS Association – Keith Worthington Chapter (to purchase items for daily living), Douglas County Visiting Nurses Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Department, Meals on Wheels, or Good Shepherd Hospice Care in Lenexa, KS and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
