Harold Hirst

Harold Hirst, loving father and grandfather, 87, Lawrence passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Lawrence. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Worden Cemetery, SW of Lawrence.
Harold was born November 2, 1926 in Butler, MO, the son of George Ivan and Carrie (Hobson) Hirst.
Harold was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1945 – 1947. He served in Japan as part of the Army of Occupation. He received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Metal, WWII Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal.
Harold was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Lawrence where he was involved with various ministries including, Sunday school superintendent, head usher, and started the bus ministry. He was very devoted to his family and enjoyed reading.
He worked in sales for Farmer’s Coop, he then worked at the Christian Book Store, and Raco Car Wash.
He married Aretta Marie Ross on January 21, 1951 in Eskridge, KS. She preceded him in death August 9, 2013.
Survivors include two daughters, Dinah Hirst, Lawrence, Paulette (Jeri) Breithaupt, Lawrence; one son, Ross (Karen) Hirst, Topeka; a brother, Darold Hirst, Overland Park, KS; three grandchildren, Julie (Justin) Hoffman, Eric (Heather) Hirst, and Jeffrey (Angie) Breithaupt; and five great grandchildren, Caden Hoffman, Mason Hoffman, Carson Hirst, Bella Breithaupt, Reagan Hirst; and one on the way.
The family will greet friends at the church from 9 a.m. until service time.
The family suggests memorials in his name to First Church of the Nazarene and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
