Betty Jean Thornburg

Betty Jean Thornburg passed peacefully on September 3rd in Westminster, CO.
Betty, also known as Johnnie, was born in Loveland, CO on November 22, 1927 to Alexander and Ruth Hamilton. Betty had four older siblings Wayne Hamilton, Neil Hamilton, Jimmie Hamilton and George Hamilton, all deceased. She attended school in the Timnath School District except for her last year in school which was in Ogden, Utah. She attended CSU in Fort Collins.
Betty married Roland H. Thornburg on September 19, 1948 and they would have celebrated their 65 wedding anniversary this September 19th. Betty and Roland had two children, Janet Ruth Thornburg-Cornell of Arvada, CO, and Jeffery Neil Thornburg deceased.
In 1960 Betty and Roland moved their family to Lawrence, Kansas. Betty finished her college degree at the University of Kansas in 1966 with a Bachelor in Education. Betty taught 4th and 5th grade for 27 years at Hillcrest Elementary School until she retired. Betty enjoyed teaching, golf, reading, crocheting, knitting, and sewing. In retirement Betty served on the Board of Director of Alvamar Country Club in Lawrence. In 2007 Roland and Betty moved back to Colorado after almost 50 years in Lawrence, Kansas.
She is survived by her husband, daughter, and Grandsons Ben of Arvada, and Douglas of Castle Rock, CO. Betty also had four Great-Grandchildren, Skylar, Adam, Alexi, and I’Lia. Services will be at Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home in Loveland, CO, Wednesday, September 11 at 11:00 am. Interment, Loveland Burial Park.
