Sally Blake Gille, 90, of Leawood, Kansas, died Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Bishop Spencer Place. The funeral service for Sally will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, October 21st at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, Kansas City, MO with burial following at Highland Park Cemetery in Kansas City, KS. Friends may call from 4-6 P.M. Sunday, October 20th at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave, Kansas City, KS. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Greater KU Fund at KU Endowment.
Sally was born in Kansas City, Kansas, July 6, 1923 to her father, Luther John Blake and mother, Sadie Downing Blake. She graduated from Wyandotte High School, attended Kansas State University for two years, and following the end of World War II returned to the University of Kansas, graduating in 1947. She married her husband, Everett S. Gille, in 1947. They had three children, Jennifer, Greg, and Julie. They had lived in Kansas City, KS, Wichita, and Topeka. Sally was a volunteer serving in the Junior Leagues of Kansas City, KS, Wichita, and Topeka, and was active in Children's Theatre in all three cities. She was also a member of the Mulvane Art Gallery, and P.E.O. in Topeka. Everett preceded her in death in 1990.
Survivors include her three children, Jennifer Gille Bacon (Charles), Gregory Gille (Barbara Haman), Julia Gille Anderson (Jett); four grandchildren, Sara Bacon, Emily, Spencer, and Samuel Anderson; her sister-in-law, Lucile Gille; and numerous nephews and nieces.
