Thomas Clifford Kring

Thomas Clifford (Nick) Kring age 85 of Baldwin City, Kansas passed away October 9, 2013 at Wellsville Manor in Wellsville, KS. Nick was born March 20, 1928, the son of Oakley Vane Kring and Fern Amanda (Gilliland) Kring.
He grew up in and around Baldwin City, Kansas, where he graduated from Baldwin High School in 1946. In 1950 he entered the United States Army to serve his country in the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. After an honorable discharge in August 1952, he was united in marriage with Margarette Marie Grabman on April 25, 1954, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They shared 56 years of marriage. Nick ran Nick’s Café at Baldwin Junction from 1948 until 1957. He was also the co-owner of Brubaker Amusement from 1969 until 2000. He also was in the construction industry.
Nick was a member of the VFW, Baldwin City, American Legion Post 228 of Baldwin City and the Fraternal Order of Eagles 2700 of Ottawa and the Elks Lodge 803 of Ottawa. Thomas loved to shoot pool, fish, and take care of the yard and loved mowing. He also had three dogs and a cat which he dearly loved.
He is survived by his wife, Margarette, of the home; sons William Werntz of Winfield, KS, and Rudy Sudja and wife Sally of Baldwin City, KS; daughter Vicki Russell and husband Noel of Riverside, MO; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Elda, Nadine and Mary; an infant son; a daughter-in-law, Martha Werntz; and a grandson, Clifford Sudja.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:30PM, Friday, October 11, 2013, at Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home, Baldwin City, KS. Burial will follow at Sutton Cemetery, Baldwin City, KS.
The family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
