Alvah John Pletcher

Alvah John Pletcher, Lecompton, passed away November 23, 2013, after a long battle with cancer.
John was born in Lowell, IN, on Feb 5, 1943, to the parents of Alvah L. and Nadine Pletcher. He attended the Lowell schools through his junior year of high school. He went to Columbia Military Academy, in Columbia, TN, for his senior year and also a post-graduate year. John attended Purdue University, in Lafayette, IN, for one year. He joined the Air Force on Dec. 3, 1963. He spent his four years of service at Forbes Air Force Base, in Topeka, KS. He got out on Dec. 2, 1967. He worked for AAFES from 1968 till 1972. He worked for the Topeka Capital-Journal for more than twenty years. He retired at the age of 49.
John married Verna Kent on Aug. 26, 1967. She survives at home. Other survivors are a step-son Harold. E. Becker Jr. of Seoul, South Korea; two sisters, Patsyann (Charles J.) Buche, Syracuse, IN and Cynthia (Virgil Leon) Clinton, Lowell IN. He is also survived by three nephews; Charles Buche, Warrensville, IL, Craig Buche, Goshen, IN and Adam Buche, Kimmell, IN.
John was preceded in death by his Mother and Father.
John loved family and friends and KU basketball. He had a good group of coffee guys that he really enjoyed being with, too.
John was cremated; there will be a memorial service at the Lecompton United Methodist Church, Friday, November 29, 2013, at 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lecompton United Methodist Church or the Lecompton Historical Society, which he was a lifetime member.
