Elsie Lorene Pollock Farris, 94 , Kansas City, KS passed away June 11, 2013 at Providence Medical Center. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15 at the Porter Funeral Home, 1835 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, KS. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Cancer Action, Inc.
Lorene was born June 26, 1918 near Powersville, Putnam County, MO to Rev. W.A. and Martha Edith Putnam Pollock. She graduated from Gilman City, MO High School, attended 1 year of college at Fayette, MO and entered Nurses Training at St. Margaret Hospital graduating in 1939. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 67 years, Lonnie H. Farris, 6 brothers, 2 sisters and two grandsons, Jason and Phillip Duermyer.
She is survived by daughter Martha Ann Duermyer-Ibarra, (Martin), and children, Chris (Pam), Marty Jo ,(Trish), Michael, Mark, (Lisa), Michele Martin (John) and Marcia Budd; daughter Linda Kay Hicks (John), and their children, Elizabeth (Jerry Milborn), Amy Hicks (Aaron Brizendine); daughter Janice Ilene Stathas, ( Steve), daughter Nancy Lee Ornburn (David), and children, Michael (Alarie), Chelsey, Jacob, and Andrew; 2 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren; a sister, Jean Winger, Flagler, CO and nieces and nephews. She worked for the Census Bureau retiring in 1982. She was a founding member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Lorene was honored to be named the Woman of the Year by the United Methodist Women’s Society. She belonged to American Legion Auxiliary Unit 199 and served Sunflower Girls State as their nurse for several years.
