Harold William Carpenter

Harold William Carpenter, 84, longtime Lawrence, KS resident, passed away on July 27, 2013, at his place of residence in Wichita, KS from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
He was born, February 23, 1929 in Orient, Iowa. The family moved to Oskaloosa, Iowa where Harold graduated from Oskaloosa High School class of 1947. After graduation, he served in the army. He was a graduate of William Penn University. An avid sports fan, Harold loved watching the K. C. Chiefs, Royals and the Kansas Jayhawks. He was a member of several bowling leagues in the Overland Park, KS area where he lived from 1989 to 2012.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents Clell and Florence Carpenter, a brother, Paul “Dick” Carpenter, a sister, Clellene Sample, and 2 infant brothers.
He is survived by his sister, Patty Sarver and her husband Larry of Oskaloosa, Iowa and three children all formerly of Lawrence, daughters Kathy Bright, her husband Terry Bright, and Kristi Carpenter all of Dallas, Texas; and Chuck Carpenter, of Wichita, Kansas. He was ‘Grandpa Harold’ to three grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Bright of Dallas and Jordan Montasser of Spring, Texas; and great-grandpa to Jadon, Ryleigh, Parker, Jackson, Benjamin, and Landry.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 2nd at 10:30 am at Garland-VanArkel-Langkamp Funeral Home in Oskaloosa, Iowa with Pastor Don DeGlopper officiating. Burial of his cremated remains will be in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
