Leila Elaine Mulliken

Memorial services for Leila Elaine Mulliken, 84, Lawrence, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 at Trinity Episcopal Church. She will be inurned in the Trinity Episcopal Columbarium. She died July 11, 2013 at Presbyterian Manor in Lawrence. She was a resident of Lawrence since 1969.
Elaine was born April 24, 1929 in Columbus, KS the daughter of Laurance Reed and Cecil May (French) Mulliken.
She graduated from Cherokee County Community High School, Columbus, KS. She received her B.A. and M.A. in Education from Pittsburg State University. She then received advanced studies at Kansas State University and The University of Kansas.
She was a Home Economics teacher at Alma High School for one year, Leroy High School for two years, Coffeyville High School for 15 years, and then Lawrence High School from 1969 until she retired in June 1994.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Phi Mu Epsilon Honorary Home Economics, she was a 50 year member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher’s Society, a member of KNEA – NEA and Lawrence Education Association. She was also a member of Lawrence Area Business Professionals, Douglas County Home Economists, and Eastern Star in Columbus, KS.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Annie Mulliken Hartman, and husband, Bill, Bernalillo, NM, Richard Del Jurney, and wife, Kristie, Roswell, NM, Sarah Mulliken Smyer, and husband, Zack, Tuttle, OK, Laurance Reed Mulliken, and wife, Bernadette, Plainview, TX, Matthew Sandon Mulliken, and wife, Ellie, Rockwall, TX; five grand nieces; and three grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Dr. Albert Laurance Mulliken, of Roswell, NM.
The family suggests memorials in her name to the Visiting Nurses Hospice and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
