Douglas W. Wahl

Douglas W. Wahl, 56, of Lawrence, Kansas, died July 30, 2013 in Lawrence. Doug was born in Lincoln, Kansas on June 11, 1957, the second of three sons of Richard and Harriet Wahl. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1975, attended Kansas State University for a year, and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1980 with a degree in journalism. He later received a master’s degree in business from Baker University.
Doug went to Europe in 1980 for graduate school and the grand tour, eventually deciding to live in Bologna, Italy, where he worked as an English instructor and tour manager until 1987 when he returned to the US. He held marketing positions with KPL Gas Service Company and Utilicorp United in Lawrence and Kansas City, and later held executive positions with Commonwealth Edison in Chicago, Illinois and with First Energy in Akron, Ohio. In 2001, Doug moved to Lawrence and purchased Lawrence Pawn and Jewelry.
Doug had a creative, independent and sensitive spirit. He loved cooking, guns, good humor and Italy, and he never lost touch with the sandy-haired boy who roamed the creeks and rolling hills, dreaming of adventures and fascinating things.
Doug was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his brother, Phillip, and wife, Leslie, and children, Natalie and Georgia, and his brother, Donald, and partner, Sean O’Hogan, and children, Axel, Cris and Seni.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
