Paul A. Haack Minneapolis, MN
Paul Haack, 78, passed away April 24 in Minneapolis, MN. Paul grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, earned graduate degrees from UW, and directed high school bands, the UW Marching Band, and the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corp before moving to Lawrence in 1966. He was a professor of music education at KU for 22 years, teaching with gentleness, patience, and dry wit. He honed his trumpet skills in the Lawrence City Band and, with the help of KU friends, became a wily racquetball player. In 1988 he moved to Minnesota and taught for another 19 years. Paul is survived by his wife of 55 years, Maggie, and children Dennis (Laura) of Hawaii, Don (Brenda) of Wisconsin, Jim (Janna) of Wisconsin, Sarah of Oregon, and Pete (Emily) of Lawrence, and 8 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in New Brighton, MN on Thursday, May 2. Inurnment will be at Pioneer Cemetery on the KU campus. Family and friends in Lawrence are invited to a reception from 2-6 p.m. in the Centennial Room of the Kansas Union on Saturday, May 4. Memorials may be made to Foundation4SchoolMusic.org.
