Wilma “Jean” Maness, 84, of De Soto, KS passed away April 17, 2013 at Medicalodges of Eudora. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Sat., April 20, 2013 at De Soto Baptist Church, 8655 Church St., De Soto, KS. Burial follows at De Soto Cemetery. Jean was born May 8, 1928 in Bonner Springs, KS to William Townsend and Mary Ann (Green) Tripkos. She graduated from De Soto High in 1946 and married Junior A. Maness in De Soto on May 11, 1947. Jean was a homemaker who worked as a Southwestern Bell telephone operator early in her marriage. She was an active member of De Soto Baptist Church, the American Baptist Women, and helped with church dinners for years. She was a member of the De Soto “Pleasant Hour” social group. Jean was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for her daughters. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, James and Raymond Tripkos. Jean is survived by her husband, Junior, of the home; daughters, Debbie Maniez and husband Tim, De Soto, KS and Mary Gale Kramer and husband Hank, Olathe, KS; sister, Eleanor White, Lawrence, KS; four grandchildren, Scott, Tyler, Kelly and Meredith; and two great grandchildren, Kennedi Jo, Harrison and one great granddaughter on the way.
