Erna L. Sutton 1935 - 2011 Lawrence
Erna Sutton
A memorial service for Erna L. Sutton, 76, Lawrence will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
Mrs. Sutton died June 5, 2011 at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Baldwin City.
She was born on May 24, 1935 in Winston, Mo., the daughter of Ernest O. and Lucille Searcy Stuck.
Mrs. Sutton was a bus driver for the city of Lawrence and USD 497. She also was the secretary for the Arthritis Foundation and a park ranger at Clinton Lake. She was a founding member of the Fraternal Order of Police Women’s Auxiliary.
She married Lyle R. Sutton Sr. on Dec. 21, 1960. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2011.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Lewis and Angela Morgan, both of Lawrence; two sons, Kelvin Helmert, Lawrence and Lyle “J.R.” Sutton Jr., Overland Park; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 4 p.m. until the service time Thursday at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to the Fraternal Order of Police or Grace Hospice, sent in care of the mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
