James David 'Dave' Crabb 1929 - 2011 Lawrence
Memorial service for James David “Dave” Crabb, 81, Lawrence, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pioneer Ridge Health Center.
Mr. Crabb died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Pioneer Ridge.
He was born Dec. 10, 1929 in Garden City, the son of Archie Edward and Genevive Bishop Crabb.
He was a longtime resident of Garden City, where he owned and operated Dave Crabb Electric for more than 35 years. He also was involved in starting the Salvation Army in Garden City. For his work in the Salvation Army, he received The Community Service Award in 1983, the Army of Stars in 1986, and the William Booth Award, the highest Civilian Salvation Army award one can receive. In 1997 he was inducted into the Garden City High School Hall of Fame.
In addition to his business, Mr. Crabb volunteered many hours to the local education system, the community college and local charities. He was very active in many community organizations and service clubs. He was a member of the Kansas National Guard, where he was a First Lieutenant. He also was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Garden City, where he served many positions. He was a resident of Pioneer Ridge for more than seven years.
He married Mamie Stukey on Oct. 15, 1950, in Garden City. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Paul Crabb and wife Linda, Lawrence, and Arlen Crabb and wife Patricia, Aberdeen, Md.; two daughters, Annette Cody and husband Larry, Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Mary Jo Bevz and husband Mike, Las Cruces, N.M.; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care or to the Salvation Army in Lawrence, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
