Marianne Lynch Griffin

Mass of Christian Burial for Marianne (Lynch) Griffin, 81, Boston, was Dec. 5 at the College of Our Lady of the Elms Chapel in Chicopee, Mass. Burial followed in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Mrs. Griffin died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011.
She was born July 31, 1930, in Springfield, Mass., the daughter of Michael J. and Mary C. (Sullivan) Lynch.
She was raised in the Western Massachusetts area and was educated in the local schools, receiving a bachelor’s degree from the College of Our Lady of the Elms. Mrs. Griffin continued her education at Boston College, where she was awarded a master’s degree in history, and later earned a master’s degree in library science from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan. Her employment as a librarian included working for Kansas University (1969-1979), law firms in Kansas City, Mo., and Providence, R.I., and the Connecticut State Library. Mrs. Griffin, a retired librarian, enjoyed talking politics, keeping up with her Elms classmates and Lawrence, Kan., friends, finding a good mystery to read, and volunteering for Beacon Hill Village.
Survivors include a son, Stephen M. Griffin, Mandeville, La.; two daughters, Anne E. Griffin, Boston, and Angela C. Griffin, Lawrence; a granddaughter, Christina S. Griffin; a brother, David M. Lynch, Dallas; and a sister, Margaret A. Lynch, Naples, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford S. Griffin; a brother, John B. Lynch; and her parents.
The family suggests memorials to the College of Our Lady of the Elms, 291 Springfield St., Chicopee, MA 01013.
The Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee, was in charge of the arrangements.
