Nadine Criqui

Funeral services for Nadine Criqui, 84, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Lyndon Cemetery.
She died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 10, 1925, in Lyndon, the daughter of Lyall and Martha Charlotte “Lottie” Schoepflin Swisher.
Mrs. Criqui graduated from Lyndon High School in 1943. After graduation, she passed the state examination and was one of the last to receive a Normal Training Certificate, which qualified her to teach in the elementary schools of Kansas. She taught at Highland, Richview and Wolf rural schools in Osage County; Chamness, a rural school near Emporia; and introduced music at Grainfield Grade School in Gove County.
She retired in 1987 after working 21 years in quality control at Hallmark Cards in Lawrence.
Mrs. Criqui was active in 4-H and was a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of Lawrence First United Methodist Church, Kaw Valley Corral of Westerners, Lawrence Knife and Fork Club, American Association of Retired Persons and the Williams Educational Fund. She was an active member of the Lawrence Pilot Club and served as its president in 1996. She joined Kappa Kappa Iota in 1958 and held most of its offices and was president many times.
During World War II, Nadine rode on a troop train from Kansas City to San Diego for her wedding. She married Orvel A. Criqui on June 3, 1944, in San Diego. They had lived in Lawrence since 1956. He preceded her in death Nov. 12, 2008.
Survivors include a son, Eugene “Anthony” Criqui and wife Lisa, North Vancouver, British Columbia; a daughter, Kathleen Marie Golden and husband James, Lancaster, Calif.; four grandchildren, Michael, Christina, Andrew and Timothy Golden; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
