Thomas M. Amyx 1933 - 2010 Lawrence
Funeral services for Thomas M. Amyx, 77, Lawrence, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
He died Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 3, 1933, in Lone Elm, the son of Cecil Dean and Ethel May Ross Amyx. He had been a resident of Lawrence since 1942.
He was a 1952 graduate of Liberty Memorial High School.
Mr. Amyx served in the U.S. Naval Reserve.
He was a barber and owned Tom’s 14th Street Barber Shop and later owned Amyx Barber Shop until the mid-1990s.
He married Shirley Mae Raymer on Oct. 28, 1952, in Bentonville, Ark. She survives, of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Mike and wife Marilyn, Jon and wife Carol, and Ron and wife Betty, all of Lawrence; 11 grandchildren, Brenn, Stephen, Adam, Chris, Jay, Joe, Mandy, Rachel Amyx, Ashlea Denison, Kelly Johnson and Kim Field; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, David, in 2005 and a sister, Helen Amyx Wilson.
The family will greet friends from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
