Juanita Ortiz

Mass of Christian Burial for Juanita Ortiz, 81, Humboldt, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
She died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at her residence after a short battle with cancer.
She was born May 16, 1929, in Chanute, the daughter of Juan and Brigida “Olivia” Serrato. She was a housewife.
She married Vincent Ortiz on Aug. 25, 1950, in Bentonville, Ark. He preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Serfin Serrato.
Survivors include her companion, Bill Wright; three sons, Randy Ortiz, Lawrence, Eddie Ortiz and wife Beth, La Harpe, and Roger Ortiz, Danville, Ind.; three daughters, Carla Tabares and husband Tony, Chanute, Teresa Estrella, Aurora, Colo., and Patricia Hanes and husband Richard, Eudora; two brothers, Alfred and Emilio Serrato, both of Chanute; two sisters, Esther Ortiz and Elisa Narvaez, both of Chanute; 24 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the church.
The family suggests memorials to Horizon Hospice or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel, 16 North Forest, Chanute, KS 66720.
The chapel is in charge of arrangements.
