Elizabeth Lester 1917 - 2010 Lawrence

No funeral services are planned for Elizabeth “Betty” Lester, 93, Lawrence.
Mrs. Lester died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 11, 1917, in Washington, Pa., the daughter of Louis A. and Juanita Donley Gensch.
Her family moved to Wichita when she was a child. She attended Wichita public schools.
Mrs. Lester earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Wichita in 1938. After college, she taught in the Cimarron public schools. In 1947, she and her husband moved to Houston. She taught English in the public schools there and had her own creative writing television program on an educational channel.
After she retired from teaching, she and her husband moved to Panorama Village, Texas. In 1994, she moved to Lawrence to be with her oldest son’s family.
She married William M. “Mac” Lester of Wichita in 1940. He preceded her in death July 23, 1987.
Survivors include three sons, Robert M. Lester and wife Linda E., Lawrence, Louis Dean Lester and wife Valerie, Richmond, Texas, and Kenneth E. Lester and wife Lisa, Fort McKavett, Texas; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, 120 W. 13th St., Lawrence, KS 66044.
