Ernestine E. Hoch 1911 - 2010 Baldwin City
Graveside services for Ernestine E. Hoch, 99, Baldwin City, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at White Chapel Gardens in North Kansas City, Mo.
Mrs. Hoch died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at the Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Jan. 6, 1911, in Parkville, Mo., the daughter of J.E. and Quinnie Dearing Lessley. She grew up in Parkville and graduated from Park College.
She taught in rural schools in the Parkville area for many years. Mrs. Hoch played piano and taught piano lessons as well. She join her husband in Panama during World War II. After the war, they moved to North Kansas City, Mo., where she gave private piano lessons. Mrs. Hoch was an accompanist for five years while living in University Towers in downtown Kansas City, Mo. She moved to Vintage Park Assisted Living Center in Baldwin City in 2000 to be close to her daughter. For the past year, Mrs. Hoch had resided in the Baldwin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a member of the North Kansas City First United Methodist Church, where she was active in the women’s circle and bell choir. Mrs. Hoch was also a member of Chapter IJ of P.E.O., and was a charter member of the Parkville branch of American Association of University Women.
She married Merton R. Hoch in 1941. He preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Floyd.
Survivors include her daughter, Jan Boyd and husband Roger, Baldwin City; and a grandson, Jon Boyd.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home in Baldwin City.
