Constance Rosebaugh Scheerer 1920 - 2005
Services for Constance Rosebaugh Scheerer, 85, Topeka, will be in June at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence. Cremation is planned.Mrs. Scheerer died Wednesday, May 18, 2005, in Topeka.She was born April 1, 1920, in Springfield, Mass., the daughter of the Rev. John Howat and Phebe Elizabeth Goodspeed Rosebaugh. She graduated from Dwight School for Girls in Englewood, N.J., in 1937 and received her Bachelor of Arts from Wells College in Aurora, N.Y., in 1941. She later studied philosophy at Harvard University and anthropology at Columbia University. She was awarded a Master of Arts degree in comparative literature from Columbia in 1943. She was a longtime resident of Lawrence and later moved to Topeka.Mrs. Scheerer was a poet and painter. She also worked as a proofreader and copy editor for Allen Press in Lawrence.She married Martin Scheerer in 1946. He died in October of 1961.Warren-McElwain Mortuary is in charge of local arrangements.
