Spring storm leaves cloudy skies with cold, wet conditions

Moisture comes in time for some trees, too late for others

April showers have helped lawns and flowers, but the jury’s still out on the trees. A relatively wet few weeks — Lawrence has received 5 inches of moisture since March 1 — has left the city in a sea of green, pink, yellow and purple. With less than an inch of new snow overnight, streets were largely clear in Lawrence Wednesday morning, but Kansas Department of Transportation officials advised drivers to be careful, as temperatures dropped below freezing overnight and ice has accumulated on many side streets and roads.
