Lawrence High sophomore Justin Roberts was named the Sunflower League’s Sophomore of the Year and was the only non-senior to be recognized on the first-team All-League boys basketball team.

Lawrence High’s boys basketball players kept it loose in practice on Friday. They needed a day to rest both physically and mentally after beating Gardner-Edgerton, 62-45, in the first-round of Class 6A sub-state on Thursday and hearing that assistant coach Kermit Aldridge had a turn for the worse in his battle with cancer. Now, a win away from a state tournament appearance, they want to re-energize.

Lawrence High’s boys basketball players were preparing for a heavyweight fight against Olathe North on Friday night at LHS. This fight was called in the first round. The Lions jumped to a huge lead in the first half, beating the Eagles in every phase of the game, in an eventual 74-49 drubbing in the LHS “pink-out” game. By Bobby Nightengale
