- 2010 Journal-World All-Area fall sports teams
- December 12, 2010
- The following are the Journal-World’s All-Area sports teams for the 2010 fall season:
- Fast finish sparks LHS boys to third at state CC
- October 31, 2010
- Zach Andregg finished 18th in the Class 6A boys race (16:34:60), not quite fast enough to catch Free State’s Kain Anderson (10th place, 16:26:40) or FSHS senior Logan Sloan (15th place, 16:29:40). Collectively, though, the Lions showed their strength down the stretch to earn a third-place team finish at the 2010 Cross Country State Championship on Saturday at Rim Rock Farm.
- Three of four city cross country squads make state
- October 24, 2010
- Lawrence High’s girls placed third with 99 points to earn the final state-qualifying position. Free State, with 100 points, was fourth and did not qualify as a team — the only one of four city squads at the cross country regional not to earn a team state berth.
- Free State’s Robinson, LHS boys third at Sunflower League
- October 17, 2010
- Before Saturday’s race, Free State junior runner Lynn Robinson made a friendly wager with a friend, who happens to be a professional chef. If Robinson finished in the top three, he’d make whatever meal she wanted. If she failed to place in the top 10, though, she’d be stuck wearing a goofy outfit to school and practice next week. Talk about motivation.
- Free State CC third in Haskell races
- October 10, 2010
- Logan Sloan and Kain Anderson finished 1-3 in the boys race, and Lynn Robinson and Hayley Francis were 3-4 in the girls race to pace Free State High to a pair of third-place team finishes at the Haskell Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Haskell Indian Nations University.
- Familiarity of Rim Rock helps LHS, Free State runners
- September 26, 2010
- Over 3,000 athletes competed Saturday at the Rim Rock Invitational, making for a quite a festive occasion. Dozens of colorful tents and banners dotted the landscape at Rim Rock Farm, and runners from across the Midwest and their families awaited the various races by chatting, sleeping, eating and stretching.
- Baldwin tops at home invite; FSHS boys sixth
- September 19, 2010
- Tony Weiss led Baldwin High’s boys cross country team to a first-place finish at the Baldwin Invitational on Saturday morning.
- Donations to school district to finance equipment for student-athletes in track, cross country
- September 15, 2010
- Another donation is speeding up another Lawrence school district athletics project — this time for runners in cross country and track and field.
- Firebird Sloan second; FSHS boys CC sixth
- September 12, 2010
- Led by Logan Sloan’s second-place finish, Free State High’s boys cross country team placed sixth at the Millard South Meet on Saturday.
- FSHS girls CC sixth, boys finish eighth
- September 5, 2010
- Free State High’s girls cross country team placed sixth, while the boys took eighth at the Greg Wilson Invitational on Saturday.
- Free State holding parents meeting
- August 6, 2010
- Free State High will hold a sports informational meeting for parents at 5 p.m. Sunday in the Free State auditorium prior to the back-to-school barbecue.
- Coaches excited about freshmen moving
- April 29, 2010
- Bob Lisher has experienced the benefits of coaching in a four-class high school system, so when Lawrence school board members voted this week to make the transition from a three-year high school system to a four-year system — subsequently allowing all ninth-grade students to participate in high school athletics for the first time — the Free State football coach wasn’t exactly complaining. Quite the opposite, actually.
- Wedge leads way as Lions repeat as state champs
- Unlike last year’s surprise, Lawrence High expected to win this year
- November 1, 2009
- Roy Wedge led Lawrence High’s boys cross country team to a repeat state title.
- Lions roll into state CC
- Wedge favored to win individual title
- October 31, 2009
- Today, when Lawrence High’s boys cross country team heads to Rim Rock Farm for the third time this season, the Lions will take the course as the defending Class 6A state champions and, therefore, will run with that giant bull’s-eye on their backs.
- LHS, FSHS boys cross country teams qualify for state
- October 25, 2009
- Lawrence High’s Shelby Clark opened some eyes, the Lions’ Roy Wedge was his reliable self and Free State High’s boys joined the state party.
