World Company Cup returns to Free State
June 12, 2013
For the seventh time in eight years, the World Company Cup belongs to Free State High. The trophy, awarded since 2006 to the school that prevails most often in City Showdowns and other competitions between rivals Lawrence High and Free State, spent the last year on display at LHS. However, the Lions’ claim to the cup proved short-lived, as Free State conquered the Lions, 17-9, in the standings. By Benton Smith

Minutes after Free State High’s girls basketball season ended at Olathe Northwest Saturday night, coach Bryan Duncan shuddered thinking about how talented the Firebirds’ opponents had been. “We hit a buzz saw tonight,” Duncan said of the Ravens decimating FSHS, 68-31, in a Class 6A sub-state championship game.
