- Veritas Christian School has named Gary Hammer athletic director. Hammer will step down as Veritas’ boys basketball coach and will coach junior high girls basketball at the school.

- Wilson Hack (78), Alex Green (80), Matt Siler (81) and Max Soto (82) all finished as top-10 medalists, and Free State won its Class 6A golf regional title with a team score of 321 — beating out Olathe East (328) and rival Lawrence High (339), which also advanced their teams to state by finishing in the top three. - Although a few clutch at-bats in extra innings turned out to be the difference during Thursday’s City Showdown won by Lawrence High, 2-1, in 10 innings, at Kansas University’s Hoglund Ballpark, neither LHS or Free State would have reached that point had it not been for the four strong outings on the mound that came before it. - As combative as the previous couple of hours of City Showdown baseball had been, Free State High coach Mike Hill and his Lawrence High counterpart Brad Stoll proudly shook hands Thursday night at Hoglund Ballpark.
