SUV with 5 people inside hit pole before overturning off Massachusetts Street, police say

An SUV that overturned off Massachusetts Street over the weekend ran off the road and hit a pole, causing it to roll and come to rest on its top, police said.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer had five female occupants ages 17, 18, 19, 20 and 27, Sgt. Amy Rhoads of the Lawrence Police Department said Monday, in an email. Rhoads said she did not have updated information about the conditions of the occupants who were injured.

The single vehicle crash happened about 11:50 p.m. Saturday near 13th and Massachusetts streets.

According to emergency radio traffic previously reported by Operation 100 News for the Journal-World, one person was taken by ambulance to Overland Park Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and two were transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Radio traffic from the scene indicated that none of the injured women was wearing a seat belt and that one of them was thrown out of the vehicle when it rolled over.
