A Lawrence police car sits outside a crime scene in this file photo from 2009.

A Lawrence resident invited a date he met online to his apartment, but the date showed up with a gun and robbed him instead, police say.

The incident happened about 7:10 p.m. Friday at 2511 W. 31st St., according to Sgt. Amy Rhoads of the Lawrence Police Department.

The victim told police he met a man on a dating website and invited him to his apartment, Rhoads said. When the man arrived, he brandished a gun and demanded the victim’s bank card. The suspect fled and used the bank card shortly thereafter.

The suspect was described as a “skinny” white male, about 17 years old, wearing a blue and orange Chicago Bears stocking cap and gray sweatshirt, Rhoads said. Police urge anyone with information about the incident to call police at 785-832-7509 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers of Lawrence and Douglas County at 785-834-TIPS (8477).
