Lawrence police searching for suspect in overnight shooting incident

The Lawrence Police Department is searching for a man who reportedly fired at another person early Sunday morning.

According to a statement from Sgt. Amy Rhoads, of the Lawrence Police Department, the victim said the incident occurred at 4:34 a.m. in the vicinity of 10th and Arkansas streets. The reporting party was retrieving items from a vehicle when the suspect approached while brandishing a firearm. The reporting party then fled while allegedly being fired at by the suspect.

Rhoads said the reporting party was unharmed. The suspect had left the scene when police arrived.

The suspect is described at a 20- to 30-year-old heavyset, bald, black man, who was shorter than 5 feet, 10 inches tall and spoke with an accent. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Lawrence Police Department at 785-830-7509.
