A woman died in a single-car wreck Wednesday afternoon just west of Lawrence.

The crash was reported around 4 p.m. near the intersection of East 800 Road and U.S. Highway 40, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said.

At the scene, one heavily damaged car was visible off the road and on an embankment on the south side of U.S. 40.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was dead when emergency crews arrived at the scene, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Blake McCall said.

A Kansas Highway Patrol report later identified the driver as Kimberly Joan Dunivan, 57, of Linwood. She was wearing a seat belt, the report said.

The Highway Patrol report stated that the car was traveling west on U.S. 40 when it drifted off the left shoulder and jumped over a ditch.

Further information about the crash was not available Wednesday evening.
