- Double Take: And next teen co-author is…
- May 13, 2013
- We had a record nine applicants for this year’s Double Take contest, with three juniors and six seniors, one from Free State, four from Bishop Seabury Academy and four from Lawrence High.
- Double Take: Introverted behavior not unhealthy
- May 6, 2013
- Dr. Wes and Katie talk about why introverts get a bad rap, and why it’s not necessarily a bad thing.
- Double Take: What is the definition of love?
- April 29, 2013
- Dear Dr. Wes & Katie: You’ve written a lot about sex and dating culture. Could you talk about love? Specifically, how do you define it? I don’t actually know if I’d recognize love in a relationship if I fell over it.
- Double Take: Set goals when adult kids move back home
- April 22, 2013
- Last week we discussed the loud emotional thud many college students make in April and May when bombing out of college. Few families are prepared for this contingency, so today we’ll offer some dos and don’ts for families with a child who has just fallen off the righteous road of college matriculation.
- Double Take: April can be tough time in college
- April 15, 2013
- For most college students, April comes at the apex of the spring semester story arc — tantalizingly near the end of the semester, but not close enough to relax. (AP Photo)
- Double Take: Contest on to select new co-author
- April 8, 2013
- Today begins the eighth contest to find the 10th co-author of Double Take.
- Double Take: SnapChat no safer than texting
- April 1, 2013
- There’s bad news and worse news about sexting. First the bad: There are no reliable stats, but I guarantee that any study you find underestimates the commonality of written sexting. The vast majority of dating couples engage in it. I’m not endorsing this. I’m just reporting it.
- Double Take: Teens not wired to be respectful
- March 18, 2013
- Dear Dr. Wes and Katie: I have a 17-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter. Both are good kids. No drugs, drinking, bullying, etc. I struggle, however, with respect from them. I find myself nagging at them because I ask them once to do something and then they don’t do it, and then I get ugly with them because I have to repeat it.
- Double Take: Breaking up is hard but necessary
- March 11, 2013
- Last month we discussed rules for romance, the first of which was to consider dating a process of figuring out who you don’t belong with. This comes up no less than 10 times a week in my office. It’s a rule that’s obviously true yet hard to follow, and if you’re going to put it to good use, breaking up will become a major part of your search for true love.
- Double Take: Dating pool doesn’t dry up after high school
- March 4, 2013
- Dear Dr. Wes and Katie: I’m 16. You say that teenage dating is the foundation for adult relationships. If that’s true, I’m going to die alone. What happens to those of us who don’t date at this age?
- Double Take: Differing methods to deal with indiscretion
- February 25, 2013
- The success of a relationship — like that of a suspension bridge — should be measured not in its length, but in its strength.
- Double Take: Online beau may not be as he appears
- February 18, 2013
- I’ve been dating a guy for two years. Now I’ve met someone through an online game, and I think we’re in love. I want to go and meet him in person, but my friends say that I’m dumb to break up with someone I know for someone I don’t know.
- Double Take: Dating advice for teens
- February 11, 2013
- Teen and young adult dating is a strong predictor of how kids will couple later in life, so we want to take it seriously.
- Double Take: Trips abroad often inadvisable in high school
- February 4, 2013
- Dear Dr. Wes and Katie: My high school student wants to go on a senior trip out of the United States. This isn’t exactly sponsored by the school, but adults from the school are going. I have heard some negative things about these trips in the past, and it bothers me that I won’t be there to see it for myself. What do you recommend?
- Double Take: Teen stimulant use shockingly common
- January 28, 2013
- My son was caught “borrowing” someone else’s Adderall during finals in December. I’m really frustrated with him. He’s claiming that this is not like drug abuse because he’s doing it to help, not hurt himself, and everyone else is using stimulants so without them he’s at a disadvantage.
