In one day, KU Endowment raised more than $1 million to benefit the University of Kansas.

In its second 24-hour fundraising event — known as “One Day. One KU.” — the organization received gifts from 2,635 donors, totaling $1.08 million, between midnight Wednesday and midnight Thursday, according to a KU Endowment news release.

“Donors believe in the work being done at KU to enrich students’ lives, serve Kansas communities and enhance the university’s status among the nation’s leading research institutions,” KU Chancellor Douglas Girod said. “KU is truly grateful for the generosity of friends and alumni.”

The number of gifts and total amount of money raised on Wednesday both surpassed the totals raised last year, when the organization raised a little more than $730,000 from 1,898 gifts.

The largest gift received this year was $100,000 while the smallest was $5, with many donors offering that amount, said Michelle Tevis, a spokeswoman for KU Endowment.

Although it is a separate nonprofit organization from the university, KU Endowment is the official fundraising organization for KU.
