A public meeting focusing on the role that Kansas Athletics and KU Endowment play in the University of Kansas budget is scheduled for this week.

The meeting, hosted by interim Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Carl Lejuez, is set for 4 p.m. Wednesday in 120 Budig Hall, 1455 Jayhawk Blvd. It’s one of several meetings that have taken place since the announcement of a $20 million across-the-board budget cut at the end of May.

After the cuts were announced, several members of the KU community asked what role both KU Athletics and KU Endowment played in KU’s budget situation, according to a news release from KU.

Lejuez has been working closely with representatives from both departments to prepare material for the meeting. The program will be live-streamed and recorded on the provost office’s website for those who can’t attend.

“It’s important to be transparent about our efforts to realign our costs with our revenue,” Lejuez said in the news release. “Administrators have been asked to make some difficult decisions. These programs help every individual at KU be part of the larger conversation and give them an opportunity to express what they believe is important to our campus moving forward.”

The final budget conversation of the fall semester will be at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 in 120 Budig Hall. The general topic will focus on the efforts of KU leadership to implement a new budget model.
