A Lawrence woman is the new volunteer president of AARP Kansas, the organization has announced.

Judy Bellome will serve as the volunteer leader for the state’s 318,000 AARP members and hundreds of volunteers across Kansas, according to a news release from the organization.

Bellome previously served as CEO of the Douglas County Visiting Nurses and Hospice Inc. from 2005 to 2013. She also served in home health settings in South Carolina, Georgia, Missouri and Kansas, taught in nursing schools and college health programs and has more than 30 years of experience in the areas of home health, hospice and adult day health services, according to the release.

Bellome has served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the Douglas County Senior Resource Center in Lawrence, and has been a broadcaster on KLWN radio in Lawrence, according to the release.

“I look forward to exploring new opportunities to make our communities in Kansas more vibrant and livable and to working with city and state leaders, AARP staff, volunteers and partners to make that happen,” Bellome said in the release.
