Westar Energy working to restore power to parts of west Lawrence

A power outage in west Lawrence affected more than 1,000 households and businesses Monday.

According to outage information on Westar Energy’s website, 1,325 customers lost power late Monday morning. The outage was first reported at 11:49 a.m. and affected a large portion of west Lawrence in the area of Wakarusa Drive and Bob Billings Parkway, according to the website.

Company spokesperson Jeremy McNeive said the outage was caused by equipment failure and that as of about 12:45 p.m., power had been restored to all but 125 customers. He said it’s estimated power would be restored to all customers by about 1:20 p.m.
