Emergency crews responded to a fire Wednesday morning at an apartment complex at 1018 W. 24th St. Fire officials have yet to determine the cause of the blaze. Investigators are looking to a string of suspected arsons reported by public safety officials during the past couple weeks in an area from 23rd Street south to 25th Street and from Iowa Street east to Naismith Drive.

Public safety officials ask for information on recent arsons

Police and fire officials are asking the public for any information about a recent series of fires that have been intentionally set at occupied apartment complexes in Lawrence. The fires have been set between Oct. 19 and Nov. 4 at apartment complexes “in an area from West 23rd Street to West 25th Street and from Iowa east to Naismith Drive,” according to the release. Firefighters from Wakarusa, Eudora, Palmyra and Willow Springs Townships spent four hours Friday night extinguishing a controlled burn of dilapidated mobile homes near the intersection of N 1100 and E 1600 Roads, close to the town of Sibleyville.
