The city of Lawrence will hold a public meeting Monday to discuss proposed changes to decoration rules at public cemeteries.

During the meeting, the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will take public input on the proposed changes, according to a news release from the city. The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Union Pacific Depot, 402 N. Second St.

The Parks and Recreation Department oversees Oak Hill, Maple Grove and Memorial Park cemeteries. On Sept. 5, department staff presented the first draft of new rules for grave decorations, which would allow plot owners more decoration options, including limited borders and ground cover. The latest version of the proposed changes is available on the city’s website.

Public comment on the proposed changes can also be provided online on the city’s website, lawrenceks.org. Comments are also accepted by email at parksrec@lawrenceks.org, stopping in at the Parks and Recreation Administrative Offices in South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St., or by calling 785-832-3450.
