Lawrence Parks and Recreation to offer free demonstrations of fitness classes

Lawrence residents curious about the city’s fitness classes will be able to try some out for free beginning next week.

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation department announced this week that it will be offering free demonstrations for about a dozen classes, including interval cycling, kickboxing and yoga, according to the news release.

The “try before you buy” free demonstrations begin on Tuesday and are open to those 15 and older. The demonstration classes will be held at three of the city’s recreation centers: Community Building, 115 W. 11th St.; East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St.; and Sports Pavilion Lawrence, 100 Rock Chalk Lane. All the classes that will be demonstrated will be available during the summer session.

No registration is required for the demonstration classes, but some classes may be limited due to equipment and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, the release said. For more information, residents can contact Recreation Instruction Supervisor Jo Ellis at 330-7355.

5-5:30 p.m.: Power Ride with Melanie Johnson, Community Building, Kaw Room

5:45-6:15 p.m.: Cardio Cycle with Melanie Johnson, Community Building, Kaw Room

6:30-7 p.m.: Interval Cycling with Ryann Waller, Community Building, Kaw Room

Wednesday, May 30

11:15-11:45 a.m.: Cycling/TRX (total body resistance exercise) Fusion with Melanie Johnson, Community Building, Kaw Room

5:35-6:15 p.m.: Oxygen with Mea Austin, East Lawrence Recreation Center

6:30-7:15 p.m.: KPW (Kickboxing, Pilates, Weights) with Mea Austin, East Lawrence Recreation Center

6-6:30 p.m.: TRX/Body Blast with Mea Austin, Community Building, Kaw Room
