On the eve of the Big 12 Baseball Championship, the conference unveiled Tuesday its All-Big 12 teams for the 2018 season.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Ryan Zeferjahn led the way for Kansas, as a second-team selection.

Zeferjahn ranked tied for first in the league in wins (8), second in strikeouts (98), third in innings pitched (78.1), fourth in opponent batting average (.216) and ninth in ERA (4.02). His 98 strikeouts are the most by a KU pitcher since 2016, when Ben Krauth tallied 103. Zeferjahn’s eight wins are the most since Drew Morovick finished with 10, in 2014.

Five different Jayhawks — sophomore second baseman James Cosentino, redshirt sophomore reliever Ryan Cyr, junior left fielder Devin Foyle, sophomore catcher Jaxx Groshans and junior closer Zach Leban — received honorable mention. Cosentino, an All-Big 12 second-teamer a year ago, was KU’s lone repeat honoree.

“We have a really young team,” KU coach Ritch Price said. “We play a lot of young guys regularly. It was a pleasure to watch these guys develop throughout the course of the season, and to earn an honor like this shows how hard they have worked.”

The Jayhawks (26-28) open up the Big 12 tournament at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, against regular-season conference champion Texas (37-18), at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Okla.
