Free State softball draws top-seeded Blue Valley in 6A state tournament quarterfinals

The Free State softball team will go up against Blue Valley at 11 a.m. Thursday at Arrocha Ballpark at Rock Chalk Park in the quarterfinals of the Class 6A tournament.

The Firebirds (15-7) earned the No. 8 seed after qualifying for the state tournament for the first time since 2013.

The winner of Free State and Blue Valley (21-1) will move on to the semifinals at 11 a.m. on May 25 against Olathe South (20-2) or Washburn Rural (17-5).

Quarterfinals (Thursday, May 24

Blue Valley (21-1) vs. Free State (15-7), 11 a.m.

Olathe South (20-2) vs. Washburn Rural (17-5), 1 p.m.

Derby (20-2) vs. Olathe Northwest (16-6), 3 p.m.

Olathe North (20-2) vs. Dodge City (17-5), 5 p.m.

Semifinals (Friday, May 25)

Blue Valley/Free State winner vs. Olathe South/Washburn Rural winner, 11 a.m.

Derby/Olathe Northwest winner vs. Olathe North vs. Dodge City winner, 1 p.m.

Championship game (Friday, May 25)

Semifinal winner vs. semifinal winner, 5 p.m.
